Many rock n roll band boys were left devastated by the news last week that Kurt Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean was getting engaged, but for those of you of the indie persuasion and shining ray of light has just emerged. Zooey Deschanel has reportedly separated from Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie.

We know, we know. This is probably a sensitive time and we shouldn’t be celebrating the end to anyones marriage, but in the wise words of Helen Rowland, “one man’s folly is another man’s wife”.

According to a source close to the couple who spoke to US Weekly there were now nasties that contributed to their separation. “It was mutual and amicable,” the source said. “There was no third party involved.”

The separation comes somewhat of a shock after the couple gushed about each other in a cover story for New York magazine only two months ago. At the time Deschanel said of married life “You can’t expect to make no effort. You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding. It sort of just solidifies your commitment.”

The announcement comes just weeks after another iconic indie couple Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth announced they too were ending their marriage after 27 years.
