What would Creedence Clearwater Revival mixed up in a sonic stew with Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, and a raft of other leading musicians sound like? Bloody tasty we reckon as our ears drips in anticipation.

Ok, so they’re not actually dripping – that would be pretty disgusting. But we are pretty excited to hear more details of former Creedence frontman John Fogerty’s new album that includes some of the biggest names in country and rock to record his iconic songs.

The Creedence Clearwater Revival legend announced on Tuesday the fall release of “Wrote a Song for Everyone,” which will feature contributors ranging from Miranda Lambert to My Morning Jacket.

Billed as a celebration of the last few decades of Fogerty’s songwriting, “Wrote a Song” is set to feature a mix of his hits and fan favourites as well as some new material. Foo Fighters will perform “Fortunate Son,” while Bob Seger’s has leant his trademark voice to “Who’ll Stop the Rain.”

Other artists on the album include Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson and acclaimed California folk-rockers Dawes. More contributors and a track listing will be announced shortly according to Fogerty’s PR agent.

Fogerty’s new album is as close as he’ll be getting to Creedence Clearwater Revival however. His surviving bandmates still haven’t forgiven him for walking out on them during the height of their popularity in 1971 to pursue a solo career.

“Leopards don’t change their spots,” said bassist Stu Cook in a recent interview. “This is just an image-polishing exercise by John. My phone certainly hasn’t rung.” added drummer Doug Clifford. “It might have been a nice idea 20 years ago, but it’s too late.”

Fogerty is currently in Australia playing songs from his back catalogue around the country as part of the Byron Bay Bluesfest 2012.
