We know what you’re thinking, make her stop. Scarlett Johannson’s foray into music has thus far been pretty controversial – teaming up with Pete Yorn and singing on various album and songs.

But her latest attempt at creative cross over is actually not that bad. The song, in collaboration with British triphopper 3D from Massive Attack is for the soundtrack of the forthcoming film Days Of Grace.

The movie is se to feature three intertwining stories with a classic cops vs robbers theme set against the backdrop of the 2002, 2006, and 2010 World Cups.

Each of the stories are being scored separately – Australia’s Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are working on the first.

Working on the second story is Atticus Ross who worked with Trent Reznor on the score for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network for which he won an Oscar. He’s teamed up with film composer Shigeru Umebayashi who worked previously on House Of Flying Daggers.

Finally, the last story’s score is getting the Massive Attack treatment from 3D who has chosen Scarlett Johansson and DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy as his collaborators. The single is a reworking of Johansson’s 2006 cover of George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’.

And we all know that if there is anyone who can make a happy song turn into a ballad of doom it’s Massive Attack’s 3D. Hopefully this is a little taste of what to expect from Massive Attack’s forthcoming album.

The group have been posted photos on their Facebook page over the last few months of them in the studio with a range of artists such Damon Albarn and Bobby Womack, so we’re expecting a star-studded album sometime in the future.

Have a listen to the track below. What do you think? Is it better than Billie Holiday’s version?
