That new Soundgarden record is just around the corner, the grunge veteran’s first LP since Down on the Upside was released in 1996 where it went #1 on the ARIA charts, and in anctipation the band are giving us a sneak peak of what to expect with their new single, ‘Live To Rise’.

The band broke up a few years later but reunited in 2010 to play Lollapalooza and recently toured down under as part of the Big Day Out 2012.

Now the band, fronted by Chris Cornell, have released a music video for new track, ‘Live To Rise’, off the new record which is being used as part of the soundtrack for the forthcoming superhero action movie, The Avengers.

They released the audio a few weeks ago as promo for the movie, but have now followed it up with their first music video in 15 years, featuring the band playing in what looks like an empty warehouse while short clips of the film play intermitendgly. Great to see that Hollywood cross promotion is still alive and kicking!

The highly anticipated record has been a long time coming, after getting delayed by a few months while Cornell and his bandmates perfected their sound.

“Musically I think the personality of the record — it’s very warm to me and adventurous like all our albums are were,” Cornell said in an interview last year about the record.

“It doesn’t sound like a throwback to any previous period and were definitely approaching songs in different ways than we’ve done…but we always did that from album to album so it feels like the genuine next step to me. It doesn’t feel nostalgic, it feels forward.”

“It sounds like Soundgarden. But I wouldn’t say it’s similar. I think there are parts of it that are there to remind everybody of us, but we’ve always progressed from album to album.”

Cornell has promised that the band will return with the new album of material in tow sometime later this year. Speaking to Triple M last month Cornell said, “We will come back soon after our album comes out and do a proper headlining tour.”
