Lana Del Rey, everybody’s favourite (and not so favourite) bee-stung-lipped, headline-dwelling chanteuse has remained at the centre of much of 2012’s music news.

From cancelling her previous Australian tour, to returning to headline Splendour and selling out sideshows in a blink, to questioning her own commitment to her music career; Del Rey has certainly seen her fair share of ups and downs.

Though her debut Born To Die reached #1 in 11 countries, she’s simultaneously had to face criticisms over her live performance, her authenticity as well as claim that her songs aren’t even her own (including some written by a footballer).

One man who’s backed her talent however, is soul legend Bobby Womack.

Last seen working in the studio on his first album of original songs in eighteen years, Womack seems an unlikely supporter, but the singer told NME  “she’s one of a kind.”

He’s even put his money where his mouth is, recording a duet with Del Rey called “Dayglo Reflection”, a track from his forthcoming LP, The Bravest Man In The Universe.

Speaking of the sessions with the “Video Games” singer, he noted “I’ve never sung with a girl like that before”, describing their recording being like “two people in a church.”

The other celebrity connection in the studio was Blur/Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn. The prolific muso, who’s been an acquaintance of Womack’s since their Gorillaz collaboration on Plastic Beach, is co-producing Womack’s latest effort along with Richard Russell, the owner of XL Recordings, the label that’s releasing Womack’s twenty-seventh(!) studio album.
