Another band attempting a World Record!? Geez, Guinness must be loving the attention at the moment.

What with The Flaming Lips challenging Jay-Z to the title of  ‘the most live shows in 24 hours,’ and of course Jack White’s spat with Guinness, calling them an ‘elitist organisation’ before accepting the record-keeping body’s offer “to attempt any of the 40,000 records that are currently active on our database” with his bizarre attempts at ‘most metaphors in a concert.’

Oh yeah, and Slash wasn’t that impressed with David DiDonato, the Texan who broke the Guinness World Record of ‘Longest Guitar Solo’ after a 24 hour session.

Now The Melvins want in on the action, Pitchfork proposing that the newly pared-down trio are gunning for the World Record of ‘Fastest Tour Ever of The United States (and Washington, DC) By A Band.’

The gonzo metal forefathers are in for a good run for the specifically titled record with a newly announced fifty-one date tour that runs from September to October across every one of America’s states, including Honolulu, Hawaii.

Their America-wide record attempt begins in in Anchorage, Alaska on September 5, but The Melvins-lite line-up of frontman Buzz Osborne, drummer Dale Crover and bassist Trevor Dunn are also heading out on a Canada-centric warm-up trek in July.

Talk about hard-working…

In related news, the latest Melvins record, Freak Puke – the group’s eighteenth album, and their first in the new three-piece sized formation – was released this week, and Spinner are offering a stream of the album for your listening pleasure. Or dive straight in with album cut “Leon Vs.
