“Mario C likes to keep it clean/gonna shine like a sunbeam”, so goes a line from the Beastie Boys’ 1998 classic, “Intergalactic”.

Mario C, for those light on their Beasties trivia, is producer Mario Caldato Jr, the hip-hop trio’s right-hand man for some of the group’s biggest albums; including Paul’s Boutique from 1989, 1992’s Check Your Head 1994’s Ill Communication and Hello Nasty from 1998 – which features the aforementioned hit, “Intergalactic”.

Caldato Jr. now reveals that there’s a wealth of material from all four of those records locked away in the Beastie Boys’ vault that could be released in future, following the death of Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch last month after he tragically lost his battle to cancer.

Speaking in recent interview with NMEMario C reveals there’s plenty of unused material that yet to be officially released, “there’s a handful of extra stuff from each record” he says, “apart from Paul’s Boutique.” Probably due to the fact that it’s recent 20th anniversary turned up little in the way of extra material.

However the producer says, “I actually went through it all recently and checked out a few things that weren’t used for Hello Nasty and there’s definitely two or three tracks that didn’t get utilised that could be utilised.”

Given the state of Michael ‘Mike D’ Diamond and Adam ‘Ad Rock’ Horowitz, still mourning the loss of their fallen friend and fellow rapper, the release of any unearthed material is “too soon” according to Mario C. Adding that, “we’ll take it slowly. No-one’s thinking of doing anything right away.”

Caldato Jr. also spoke of some late Beastie Boys recording sessions done before the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Yauch’s passing, “the guys told me that [Yauch] wanted to record,” he says of the studio time, “so they hung out and did what they used to do – just lay it down and have fun.”
