The leathery punk icon and Best Coast’s Bethany Consentino might seem like an unlikely match, but the beauty and the beast have indeed teamed up for a duet written for the HBO vampire drama, True Blood.

Billboard reports that the rugged track, “Let’s Boot And Rally” is set to appear in a future episode of the blood-sucking TV show. The collaboration between Iggy Pop and Consentino was in fact orchestrated by the show’s music supervisor, Gary Calamar; who penned the song in association with his songwriter James Combs.

Calamar says “Iggy Pop, or should I say Iggy’s people, had reached out to me saying he was a True Blood fan and if any opportunities come up, to please keep Iggy in mind…  we sent Iggy the demo… he loved it and said sign me up.”

Meanwhile the Best Coast frontlady, though in the midst of prepping the band’s second album on top of launching her ‘valley girl’ fashion line for Urban Outfitters, obviously “jumped at the chance to sing with Mr. Pop,” says Calamar.

“Let’s Boot And Rally” mines a decidedly ragged groove, beginning with the familiar strains of the man born James Newell Osterberg doing his thing, before Consentino adds a feathery touch midway through. The pair rolling through the song’s titular refrain with a suitably carefree abandon.

Speaking of the track, Pop was quoted as saying, “I’ve always liked to bite. I guess this makes me a singing vampire, does this mean I have a licence to suck? Hi Bethany…”

In related news, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has been cast as a young Iggy Pop for a forthcoming film about the infamous New York club, CBGB. While Best Coast have released their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” for an upcoming tribute album, which features the fuzzed-Cali group joining the likes of The Kills, MGMT and Dinosaur Jr’s J. Mascis and Sonic Youth drummer, Lee Ranaldo in paying homage to the classic west coast pop/rock act.
