Melodie Nelson, the solo moniker of Sydney musician Lia Tsamoglou, will launch her sophomore album To The Dollhouse at The Raval in Sydney on Friday 16 November, and at The Grace Darling in Melbourne on Friday 23 November.

To The Dollhouse is out Friday 2 November 2012 via Broken Stone Records / Inertia Music.

Following the ethereal and dream-like songs on her 2011 debut album Meditations On The Sun, Melodie Nelson has created something a little darker and synth-driven on To The Dollhouse, without compromising the pop hooks and playfulness that marked her debut.

A careful balance is typical of To The Dollhouse, a record that proudly evokes the grainy projections of ’60s and ‘70s cinema, the soundtracks of Dario Argento, and memories of the seedier side of suburbia. Grander and more colourful than its predecessor, To The Dollhouse sees Melodie Nelson cast herself bravely into her own sonic world.

To The Dollhouse was recorded in Melbourne by Simon Grounds (Kes Band, Laura Jean, Bird Blobs) and mixed in Tasmania by Chris Townend (Daniel Johns, Augie March, Oren Ambarchi). The album features Melbourne musicians Geoffrey O’Connor and Biddy Connor, as well as members of the Melodie Nelson Band. The past year has seen Melodie Nelson support Father John Misty, School of Seven Bells, Twerps and Joe McKee.

First single ‘Martha’ showcases the dramatic and cinematic flair that pervades the new record, in the form of a lead single that is both thickly atmospheric and melodically catchy, despite lyrics that recount a murdered wife’s vengeful haunting of her husband. The video for ‘Martha’ is Directed by Metaxia Coustas and stars Starring Kayla Telford-Brock.
