After captivating Australian audiences way back in early 2009, Chugg Entertainment can today confirm that Canadian quintet STARS are returning to our shores for a string of shows.
The tour will take in shows at Sydney’s The Factory on Saturday 9th February, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Sunday 10th February, The Zoo in Brisbane on Monday 11th February as well as a show at the Perth International Arts Festival on Wednesday 13th February.
Forming in Toronto in the nineties, then moving to New York, and eventually relocating to Montreal, the band’s mix of pop and indie rock has not only bolstered their popularity on the Montreal scene, but also played an instrumental part in the city’s burgeoning indie scene as a whole. Their career to date has seen the release of countless EPs and full-length records including the critically lauded Set Yourself On Fire which many say defined what STARS truly had to offer. The political, honest and heartfelt songwriting, always twisted in the dual themes of sex and death, appealed to fans in its directness and sincerity. Their latest release The North is an insistent return to this top form.
Over the course of more than a decade together, STARS have consistently proven themselves adept at producing incisively sharp, beautifully orchestrated pop music. Their sixth album, The North, is no exception. In many ways, it is their finest record to date – a culmination of all they have learned and lost; a record of what it is to love today, of how to live a life in music. Every one of the twelve original tracks on The North features significant input from all the band members. “This is the five of us attacking each song and turning it into something that is all of ours,” says Amy Millan, who shares lead vocals with Torquil Campbell.
