Refused were one of those once in a life-time bands. Challenging the limits of what a hardcore punk band could be, the Swedish enigmas blew the door wide open for the genre with 1998’s prophetically titled The Shape of Punk to Come. Although largely ignored in the mainstream at the time of release, in subsequent years the band have become something of legends as they imploded only months after their magnum opus, playing a limited string of shows before disbanding in a vitriolic tirade against the genre and industry they fought to revolutionise.
