After breaking a self-imposed, two year hiatus with the release of new single ‘Snakes And Ladders’ earlier this year, it seemed like Sydney hopefuls Bridezilla were seemingly coming out of their extended exile, until things went very quiet once again.

Now the quintet have broken radio silence once more only to deliver some saddening news, that after over half-a-decade together they’ve decided to lay Bridezilla to rest once and for all.

In a statement issued by the band, they write that “after 6 years of writing, rehearsing, recording and touring… Bridezilla would like to announce our inevitable departure and divorce.” They also quote lyrics from Celine Dion (‘My Heart Will Go On’) and Nancy & Lee’s ‘Time’ in their final address, noting: “That’s all there is, there isn’t anymore.” Adding:

Many Thanks and Appreciation to all the musicians, producers, engineers, promoters, bookers, writers & journalists, home owners, studios, banks, airlines, hotels, venues, festivals, club owners etc we’ve met and worked/played/stayed/flew with/for/pulled favours from over the years. Thankyou for all the good times and the bad. Belated apologies for being little shits.

After the long list of thank you’s, they write: “And so, we will have The Last Dance, our final show at The Oxford Art Factory on 16th January 2013, and bid you all So Long, Farewell, Aufwiedersehn, Adieu…”

The Sydney five-piece first found buzz with their eponymous debut EP in 2007, arriving two years after talented guitarist and lead singer Holiday Sidewinder teamed up with four mates at high school. Namely, guitarist Pia May, saxophonist and keys tinkler Millie Hall, violinist Daisy Tulley and Joshua Bush on drums.

With their unique instrumentation and well-honed live show developing over time, they eventually released their debut full-length The First Dance in 2009, though there were rumours that they’d been spending the intervening years working on a follow-up, it’s now clear that their only LP is Bridezilla’s first and last dance.

The band’s official Last Dance will take place at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday 16th January, 2013 with impressive support slots from local Sydney four-piece Cabins, Swimwear (the solo moniker of Dappled Cities’ Tim Derricourt), and a DJ set from guitar/noise vigilante Kirin J Callinan, with more acts to be announced.
