Thornbury’s favourite mini-festival, Applecore is back for 2013 and have announced the first round of acts set to play the event in late February.

Despite previous claims that the festival would need to relocate due to continuous noise complaints and the need for more space for concert-goers, it appears that Applecore will indeed be back in its original location for what organisers are calling “the last, last time”.

Of the complaints, which has seen the festival get in trouble with Thonrbury locals, promoters say “Our plan was to expand 2013’s event to a new venue to accomodate more people and avoid pissing off the neighbours. Due to a number of pressing issues which required our organisational efforts, we have run out of time to get it going before February hits us.”

Appropriately, the festival will take take place on national SLAM day, which celebrates small venues and live music across Australia, and last year saw more than 150 venues across the country team  up with musicians to celebrate local live music in their own communities.

Applecore will see Melbourne garage band The Perfections playing alongside local alterna-rockers Hoodlum Shouts.

Fresh off a monster set at Meredith Music Festival (you can read our review here),  and Falls Music Festival, where our reviewer became a big fan of his  “smooth country tunes and beautiful harmonies.” Fraser A. Gorman is set to play with his band Big Harvest.

A favourite with locals and outer-Mebournians alike (yes, people do venture from the south side for this quaint backyard festival), Applecore has seen some of Melbourne and Australia’s best acts play in recent years. Some notable acts include Spod, Grand Salvo,  Primitive Calculators, and Orbweavers, who just recently played a gig at Open Air Cinemas concert series.

Be sure to get in quick! There are a VERY limited amount of tickets for the small festival.
