Fans looking forward to British metalcore outfit Bring Me The Horizon are no doubt rubbing their mitts with glee at their imminent arrival in Australia as part of the mammoth lineup for Soundwave 2013, but it won’t be a homecoming for the group’s Australian-born guitarist Jona Weinhofen, who has announced that he has unexpectedly quit the band.

The Adelaide raised musician has been a part of the BMTH lineup since 2009, appearing on their 2010 album There Is A Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret, as well as its forthcoming follow-up Sempiternal, due for release this April 30 through Sony, the band’s new label after leaving Epitaph.

But now, just weeks out from Soundwave 2013, Weinhofen has severed all ties with his fellow bandmates, indicating that he has been dropped from the band and not yet able to divulge details.

Taking to twitter yesterday afternoon, the guitarist announced:

https://twitter.com/jonaweinhofen/statuses/291041345848606721?tw_i=291041345848606721&tw_e=details&tw_p=tweetembed

An official announcement is yet to emerge from BMTH’s camp, but, as FasterLouder points out, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has said that the lineup changes will not affect the band’s touring plans, including their appearance at two Sidewaves shows at Melbourne and Sydney with Pierce The Veil.

Meanwhile Weinhofen has commented that he is committed to writing and recording a new album with the band he founded, Australian hardcore act I Killed The Prom Queen.

Bring Me The Horizon aren’t the first act on the Soundwave bill who’ve suffered a significant lineup change ahead of the touring festival’s 2013 iteration.

Anthrax, one of three of metal’s big four playing the festival (along with Metallica and Slayer) also lost their guitarist, shredder Rob Caggiano, though under far less dramatic terms. The blood between Caggiano and his Antrhax bandmates was anything but band, the two parties having nothing but niceties and well wishes for each other as Caggiano departs to focus on his career as a record producer.

Josh Freese, the drummer and long-term member of A Perfect Circle, confirmed he’d be departing the Maynard James Keenan led collective ahead of Soundwave 2013. At 13 years service, Freese was one of the more permanent fixtures of the band’s ever-changing lineup, alongside the Tool/Puscifer vocalist and guitarist/lead songwriter, Billy Howerdel.

It seems to be a bit of a negatived trend developing for Soundwave 2013, but with just over a month left until the festival’s kick-off at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds, hopefully music fans have seen the last of band members unexpectedly exiting.
