We previously announced Push Over’s stellar 21st birthday bash lineup with mischief-makers  (and ARIA toppers) The Amity Affliction headling a huge bill of hardcore, metal, hip hop.

Joining the huge line up for this years Push Over festival at Sidney Myer Music Bowl are the 9 FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands finalists.

Hailing from all over Victoria the finalists: Above Suspicion, Define the Signal, Eater of the Sky, Estates, Hounds Homebound, Pixie Juice, Rise Electric, Seattle Fix and The Small Print will battle it out on the Green stage at Push Over for the chance to take home the massive prize pack.

Apart from performing at Push Over the winner will score an enormous prize pack including: a day of engineering, producing, recording and mixing at Hothouse Studios; a multi camera studio film clip filmed, produced and edited by JMC Academy; a pressing of 500 copies of their recording and a graphic design layout session by DEX Audio; a kit of ‘band supplies’ including a Mapex snare drum, Vater drum sticks, Elixir guitar and bass strings, Samson vocal mic, DI and headphones and Hercules mic and guitar stands from Electric Factory; and a feature article in Beat Magazine.

Established in 1995, the FReeZA Push Start Competition is funded by the Victorian Government’s FReeZA Program and is managed by non-profit Victorian youth music organization, The Push.

This year 296 bands, including a total of 1380 individual performers competed in over 53 FReeZA Push Start events to an audience over 10,000 across the state.

The Push Over Artistic Director Shane Wickens says: ‘I’m really pleased to see such an eclectic mix of artists this year which is a testament to the diverse range of FReeZA groups around Victoria that have run the heats and discovered new talent.

This year’s Grand Finalists include genres like indie, folk and pop through to metal and punk. It’s great to see so many female musicians and diverse instrumentation like violins and rap vocals. The quality of song writing this year will make for a great recorded single.’

Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith said the Push Start Battle of the Bands competition continued to unearth great new talent.

“Now we see the winners about to make their mark on the stage at the final Push Over event. The ability of these young people is astounding and is bound to ensure the lasting success of both the competition and its entrants,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith also congratulated the Push on their 21st anniversary.

“The Push has done a remarkable job in supporting and nurturing home grown musical talent and I wish them every success for the next 21 years and I encourage young people from Melbourne and throughout Victoria to turn up and get behind this wonderful event,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith announced just last November that the Victorian Coalition Government had locked in an extra $1.6 million, taking the total FReeZA funding to $7.2 million over three years to support the youth-organised, co-ordinated and promoted events.
