UK’s biggest hardcore and heavy metal festival Download Festival has added a fresh bunch of 49 new acts to their lineup with a couple of Aussies included on the bill, which already features legendary headliners Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein.

The three day festival will host Perth rockers Karnivool and little known fellow Perth locals Naked Flame when it takes place 14th-16th June in Donington Park. They join already announced Aussie acts Airbourne and hardcore legends Parkway Drive. Also revealed in the latest batch of artists are rockers Papa Roach, London metal outfit Rise To Remain and New York gypsy punk act Gogol Bordello.

Karnivool have recently been in the studio working on their as yet untitled third album. It’s been a long time between drinks for Karnivool fans with their last record, Sound Awake released back in 2008. They look set for a big year, hinting on their Facebook page of more announcements to come.

“Download Festival in the UK, Hurricane and Southside in Germany. Confirmed. More? Of course there will be. Get ready.” reads the post. The Perth lads could be hinting at the release of that third album they’ve been working on. Or perhaps an announcement of an Australian tour later this year following their European dates. Or even that live DVD that they reported on last year that’s still yet to surface.

Australian audiences last got to see Karnivool on stage at Phillip Island’s Pyramid Rock Festival over the New Year where fans were treated to some new material.“Download Festival in the UK, Hurricane and Southside in Germany. Confirmed. More? Of course there will be.” – Karnivool

Byron Bay’s Parkway Drive have also been hard at work. They’re set to embark on a North American tour in March-April this year following up the release of Atlas in October last year, which Tone Deaf’s reviewer labelled as “Arguably the band’s most impressive work to date.” Even suggesting that “Atlas is likely to conquer the global metalcore scene in ways no other Aussie band has before.” With international tours on the cards it’s looking like this could become a reality.

Fellow Download attendees, Warrnambool’s Airbourne, also have a new studio album, Black Dog Barking, slated for release in May this year. The busy rockers have also partnered with American theme park chain Six Flags which will see Airborne’s music featured on the “tallest, fastest looping roller coaster in the world.”

Aussie artists have been making a splash overseas recently with Glastonbury’s sister festival The Great Escape festival announcing a bunch of Aussie acts including Stonefield, Hungry Kids Of Hungary and Cub Scouts amongst ten Aussie bands on the bill with more announcements to come. And with no less than 40 Aussie bands headed to Austin, Texas this year for SXSW it’s clear that Australian music is infiltrating the world stage.
