Everyone one knows 7 is a lucky number, and with less than two weeks until kick-off, Boogie 7 is set to cash in on all its luck when its 23-band strong lineup, recently bolstered with an additional ten acts in February, takes over the one and only (needed) stage at Bruzzy’s Farm in Tallarook for three wholesome days of music goodness.

Boogie has now also boasted its own wholesome credentials with the hidden gem of the musical festival calendar revealing that unlike some of the larger, commercialised music events (no finger pointing), Boogie cleans up after itself – quite literally.

Since the first ever Boogie in 2006, the festival has committed to be a truly sustainable festival and is now beginning to see the positive results reaching an important milestone in their green thumb-ery.

In association with sustainability partner Treecreds, Boogie has announced that through a joint effort with Boogie patrons, they have to date offset 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

As the press release notes:

This CO2 equivalent is now locked away in primary forest projects including 12,000 hectares of remnant bushland in Queensland. This year we will be investing in a newer project in Tasmania called REDD forest, which protects natural flora and fauna and is home to the Tasmanian Devil.

Treecreds launched its inaugural Carbon Offset Car-pass Program at the Boogie gates three festivals ago. Vehicles being greeted at the gates by Treecreds volunteers offering a $10 carbon car-pass (1/4 tonne of forest saving credits). The Program has always been voluntary, but uptake continues to increase and returning festivals goers now come prepared to get involved. This great partnership has meant that BoogieFestival is a truly carbon positive festival, with all funds going to preserve precious carbon-preserving habitat.

The three-day music event also only uses recycled cooking oil biodiesel in its on-site generators, work to reduce water use and waste production through their composting toilets, diverting organic waste to onsite worm farms, sorting trash, recycling, and also offers festival-goers free train tickets for travel planning to help reduce car and transport emissions, and organisers note they are “serious about taking responsibility for its carbon footprint and raising awareness about climate change.”

Patrons headed to catch the likes of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Tony Joe White, Henry Wagons, Velociraptor, Endless Boogie (how fitting) and the rest of the awesome Boogie lineup are encouraged to help keep the festival green, clean, and sustainable.
