How and where did La Rosa Marchita form?

La Rosa Marchita formed late last year, however the guys in the band have been playing together in numerous other projects for about 5 years

What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?

Earliest memory of performing would have to be playing the bongos as a 3 year old for my sister’s performance of baby elephant walk at her piano recital. Held it down like a boss!

You must answer this question honestly. What and where was the first gig you went to?

Starlight Express, a roller skating rock musical about a group of toy railway trains that come to life in a boy’s imagination. It was at the Glasshouse in Melbourne.

What was the first tape/vinyl/cd that you purchased?

Run DMC Tougher then Leather

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

Menahan Street Band’s “The Crossing”

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

I fold and then unfold, then fold and then unfold my guitar leads. It goes on for about 5 minutes. Then a ciggie, then one more fold and unfold of my leads.

If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?

The festival would be at a Trampoline Centre. It would be the world’s first bouncing stage (I think). Its pretty obvious that Kris Kross, Van Halen, House of Pain and Destiny’s Child would all have to be on the bill. Other attractions would include a four story high canvas for punters to paint on whilst flying in the air and a spoken word stage with a mic that can only  be reached at the height of one’s leap.

As for food, I think we’d have to go dairy free on this one, as it might get a bit ugly.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living artist from anywhere in the world would you most like to collaborate with?

Bjork. I’ve always wanted play a guitar that shoots lasers and can double as a parasol, and considering Bjork is in the business of creating new musical instruments, I think that idea may have some legs. And of course, on a musical tip, she is the master.

What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?

It would probably best suited to the Bar tailed Godwit Bird Migration, which sees 11,000 of these birds fly from Alaska to New Zealand. Lots of our friends have told us that our music is really well suited to hunting for worms, so I think this would be a good fit.

Why should we come and see you at The Elsternwick Hotel on March 29th?

We make lots of guitar noise and droned out sounds. If this is your bag, I think you’ll like it
