Producer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter, Spender is the production moniker for Tommy Spender and is set to release his first single ‘Bed & Chair’ on April 11th 2013.
Taken from debut release Modern Pest EP due for release June 21st 2013 (MGM/Independent) ‘Bed & Chair’ is a perfect cut of syncopated, disparate pop genres and sonic experimentation. Its themes of isolation and loneliness in the modern world set brightly against the steep harmonic shifts in the chorus.
Spender recalls “I was literally stuck in a hotel room in Kings Cross for three months. Creating this song and busking on my tenor saxophone felt like the only things that kept me going“.
It was this period of time with a laptop, a head full of ideas and various instruments that laid the blue print for his unique production and song-writing style. Either performing solo, with a rhythm section or in the studio, Spender exemplifies compelling collaborations, a powerful live show and distinctive visual representation.
