Jen Cloher has announced two very special launch parties in Sydney and Melbourne to celebrate the forthcoming release of her third album In Blood Memory out on Friday 24 May on Milk! Records / Vitamin Records.

Cloher and her band will play Melbourne on Friday 28th June at The Corner Hotel with very special guests Ainslie Wills and Fraser A Gorman, and in Sydney on Friday 12 July at the Oxford ArtFactory with Melodie Nelson and Courtney Barnett.

Written over six months, recorded over a period of six days, and supported by fans through a crowdfunding campaign on the Pozible platform, In Blood Memory is the long awaited follow up to Jen’s critically acclaimed second album Hidden Hands.

In a forthcoming interview with Tone Deaf, Cloher spoke about her decision to crowdfund her new album. “I wanted to have total creative and financial control over my business,” she explains. “It’s the artist basically saying ‘I believe in this product, I’m offering it to you in advance and you can help me get it out there.'”

“I think that’s a big misconception… that people are just coming in and giving me money,” she says. “They’re not giving me money; they’re getting an album, a private concert, songwriting coaching with me for two hours… I’m offering people my time, I’m offering people my art, and they’re investing in it.”

After graduating from acting at NIDA, Jen Cloher decided to pursue a career in music. Her first album Dead Wood Falls was nominated for an ARIA for Best Female Artist.

Her second album Hidden Hands was named as one of the top ten releases of 2009 by The Age and nominated for three The Age EG awards including Best Song and Best Album. Her music has been featured in television and film including Packed to the Rafters, Underbelly, Winners and Losers and Spirited.
