One of Melbourne’s biggest indie parties, bringing together some of the country’s brightest emerging musical talent under the historical roof of St Kilda’s The Espy, Spray N Wip is gearing up for a killer turn this Friday 28th June.

Headlining the impressive lineup is none other than dynamic Aussie garage rock duo DZ Deathrays, one of the most talked about bands in recent years thanks to their success at home, starting with tearing up people’s house parties, to shredding stages and venues of the highest order in international waters.

With a no-holds-barred live show, vocalist/guitarist Shane Parsons and drummer Simon Ridley have been slaying audiences since 2008, when they were simply known as ‘DZ’. Popularity and demand soon found them playing venues much larger than the lounge rooms and attics they were used to, but their thrilling approach to the live setting has never once changed in its strength of character.

Consisting of only two parts, it may be hard for some to comprehend a mere two-piece with the ability to create such a massive wall of sound. But this is a feat which DZ Deathrays has been able to conquer with results fashioned from a statically charged mix of influences like Death From Above 1979, The Bronx, Justice, Sunn 0)) and Lightning Bolt. With this combination of musical mentors as ammunition, they create a blend of driving monster beats firing over an avalanche of guitar similar to the sound of a squadron of attacking Panzer tanks.

Joining DZ Deathrays on the lineup is Melborune’s dance provocateurs World’s End Press, the colourful indie rock of The Griswolds, the suitably enthusiastic Gung Ho, garage specialists Cash For Gold, slick electropopsters Tokyo Denmark Sweden, the sophisticated stylings of Deja and Hollow Everdaze. Combined, this is a one-off gathering not to be missed – so don’t!
