My name is Tim Chaisson and I’m a singer-songwriter-instrumentalist from Prince Edward Island, Canada. I’m currently on my fourth tour of your beautiful country and I absolutely love it here.

I’m travelling with my guitar, fiddle and vocal chords – my music is a mixture of folk, country, roots, celtic and pop (says a lot eh?!). Check my website (www.timchaisson.com) for dates, I’d love to see you at a show!

You’ve just arrived back in Australia for your second tour this year, what are you celebrating for this tour?

Just being able to tour your country again! Haha, just pushing my new album again along with pairing up with Diesel on a number of shows.

Is the Canadian music scene currently has vibrant as the Australian music scene?

I think so… I’ve been here a few times but I still know much more about the Canadian music industry. Both are thriving – I love it.

Your music video for ‘Bail You Out’ has just hit online, which was shot on Prince Edward island, where is that and why did you choose that location?

I was home for a couple of days and called up a friend of mine to shoot some footage of our show on PEI… I also had the idea of shooting some random stuff from that day (rehearsing, writing, partying, etc) with the intention that we could make a little video out of it. I always wanted to do a little video on PEI so this is it! I’d love to do something else on PEI in the summertime because it’s much more beautiful.

What Australian artists are you diggin’ right now?

Well, I got to see The Jezabels when I was here last year – they were great. I also played a few shows with a new band called “Little May”. Beautiful singers.

How do you find the new music you listen to?

Right now, I’m always digging up older stuff. I’m on a Tom Petty, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan kick. As far as new music goes, I’ll usually discover something on a Songza playlist or at festivals.

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?

No lucky charms but I usually try to take a few minutes (if possible) to warm up my voice, mentally prep a set list and just relax. A glass of red is always good too ; )

If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?

Oh geez, tough question. I think I’d go for a smaller, intimate festival (1000 ish people). I’d have it in my family’s field (beautiful old farm field with a natural amphitheatre). I’d have Alison Krauss, Nickel Creek, Gordie Sampson, James Taylor, Natalie MacMaster, Serena Ryder and a few local PEI acts to start things off… Ya, that kind of vibe. I’d have good beer and wine + good coffee. A few snacks and water, of course, to keep people going.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, and you’re currently in Australia which living Aussie artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

Well I’m currently doing a collaboration w/ Mark Lizotte – we wrote a song together and are recording a little EP. He’s a super talented guy. I’d love to do something with Paul Kelly… I’m singing one of his tunes every night – Leaps and Bounds, great song.

What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?

My new record is pretty chill and rootsy… A lot of people will tell me they put my new record on when they’re hanging out with friends, etc.

Where we can see you play next, what releases do you have available and where can we get them?

Well if you head to www.timchaisson.com you can see all the upcoming dates…

I’m in Australia until June 16 – remaining shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. My album (The Other Side) is on iTunes – just type in Tim Chaisson and you’ll find ‘er!
