After duping fans with their comeback single, posing as a Russian pop band for ‘Ballad Of The War Machine’ in March, and following supporting Tame Impala on their national tour as well as hitting up regional festival Groovin’ The Moo, Midnight Juggernauts are gearing up for the release of their long-awaited second studio album Uncanny Valley.

Now the band have released the second single for their new record, due June 14th via Siberia Records/Remote Control, as well as announcing dates for a national headline tour this August/September.

‘Memorium’ is the latest single from the band, demonstrating their heady mix of synth-laden rock and sophisticated production skill, and its intriguing music video doubles as a mini-doco that “visually documents the evolution of CGI.”

The music video, titled Wireframe Memories: A Chronological Tour Through The Pioneer Years of CGI, tracks the progress of Computer Generated Imagery from the crude wire-based figures of the early 1960s through to its visual advancements in the early 1980s, then leaps three decades to 2013, with stylish resonant image of the electro rock band performing their track.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the video, a statement from Midnight Juggernauts reads: “Contemplating this subject of early digital footprints of technology, the band realized it reflected similar themes to their song ‘Memorium’. They each recount a tracing through discarded remnants of the past. It seemed logical to combine the two pieces, and so this visual homage was created.”

‘Memorium’ is the second taste from Uncanny Valley, the band’s third full-length album, following on from 2010’s The Crystal Axis and their career-defining 2007 debut Dystopia. It finds the band “once again piloting their glittery kosmische musik far into known cosmos and unknown genres,” according to the band.

Work began on Uncanny Valley in a church nestled into the French countryside, in the Loire Valley, as well as various domestic studios in Sydney and Melbourne. The 43-minute long album finds Midnight Juggernauts stretching into a gamut of new styles, including darkwave, vocal harmonised-pop, as well as “early 1950s house… dusty Giallo soundtracks” and “audio spomeniks at once futuristic and rustic.” Intriguing.

After playing shows in Colombia, Argentina, Chile, UK, France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Portugal, now Australian audiences will get another chance to hear material from Uncanny Valley in the live arena, with dates around the country this August and September, 2013. Details below.

Midnight Juggernauts – Uncanny Valley is out 14 June 2013 via Siberia Records / Remote Control.
