American professional boxer turned blues musician Paul Thorn is currently in Australia on his ‘Pimps & Preachers’ tour, impressing fans along the east coast of Australia.

Paul took some time out from playing shows to chat with us about eating vegemite, what you should avoid eating before going on stage and who he would love to cook for at a private dinner party.

What were your food influences when you were growing up and what kind of food did you eat at home or with your family?

Everything is fried in mississippi. things like fried chicken, black eyed peas and cornbread are staples.

What dish or cuisine do you most like to eat on tour and why?

Buffalo wings in buffalo new york. they are the best in the world.

What type of food do you hate, and what is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten?

I dont like curry. it tastes like an old shoe. the worst thing i have eaten is pork brains with scrambled eggs.

What type of food do you make sure to avoid before a gig or going on stage?

Boiled possum and hog chitterlings. i actually avoid them at ALL times.

Imagine for a second you can request anything on your rider on your rider. What food do you put on it?

My moms fried salmon patties with bisquits and gravy and peach cobbler for dessert.

What has been your biggest cooking disaster to date?

I really enjoy toast with butter and sugar, but one time i accidentally used salt and it tasted terrible.

What are you most looking to eating when you come to Australia?

I want to try vegemite. i heard about it in the men at work song ”land down under” when i was in high school and always wondered what it was.

Where is your favourite music venue to eat at and why?

The sportsmans tavern in buffalo new york. they have the best buffalo wings in the world. i like the mild better then the hot.

If you were throwing a dinner party and could invite any musicians living or dead, who they be and why?

Elvis, marshall crenshaw, the outfield, porter wagner and hasil adkins. they all impacted me in one way or another.

This is your last day on earth, what is your final meal?

A fried spam sandwich with corn chips, cheeze dip, and a microwaved piece of my moms homeade marble cake for dessert.
