It’s been nearly 18 months since they’ve played a show, and two years since Architecture In Helsinki released their polished, hook-laden album Moment Bends.

But now the Melbourne pop futurists have released a brand new single and two exclusive live dates to warm up for their appearance at the totally sold out Splendour In The Grass at the end of the month.

‘In The Future’ is the lead single from the band’s as-yet unnamed forthcoming album, their fifth and the follow-up to 2011’s Moment Bends, with its punctuated horns, strings, and some tasteful auto-tune on Cameron Bird and Kellie Sutherland’s vocals, the vibrant new track follows in a similarly colourful vein.

No surprise considering the band once again teamed up with producer Francois Tetaz for the new album, who helped the band channel their knack for shaped melodies and 80s inspired sounds into upbeat slices of synth-dappled pop for their 2011 album.

Best known for his chart-busting work with Gotye on Making Mirrors, Tetaz also helped enable the ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ duet with Kimbra after working with the New Zealand-via-Melbourne nu-soul maverick on her debut album, Vows.

Speaking with FasterLouder on working with Architecture In Helsinki on Moment Bends, the producer says the quintet “wanted to make quite a coherent record… A ‘new sound’ record. So to do that means a different approach to how they’d make their earlier records.”

Bird, Sutherland, and AIH bandmates Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry, and Gus Franklin will be delivering ‘In The Future’ to audiences in the live setting in two warm up shows in their home state of Victoria ahead of their appearance at the completely sold out Splendour In The Grass on the first day of the Byron Bay music festival, which recently expanded its lineup and extra curricular activities.

Architecture In Helsinki will make a long overdue visit to Ballarat, playing Karova Lounge on Friday 19th July the week before Splendour, and then an intimate show at Melbourne’s The Toff In Town on Wednesday 24th July the week of the festival. Tickets to both shows are on sale now.
