The tail-end of 2013 sees the return of the Vans Warped Tour to Australian shores for the first time in over a decade, its return announced and organised by Soundwave and Harvest Festival boss AJ Maddah in collaboration with Vans Warped Tour founder, Kevin Lyman.

After announcing Warped’s November and December touring dates in May, confirming shows in Brisbane, Coffs Harbour, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and finishing up in Adelaide, it was expected that the all important lineup announcement would soon follow, only for Maddah to announce over his busy twitter feed that the announcement had been delayed.

The official lineup is being revealed next Wednesday 10th July, on Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud program , but ahead of that full lineup reveal, it appears that the first band of the 2013 bill has been leaked.

LA-based emo/indie rock band The Dangerous Summer are already Warped Tour alumni, having playing the 2007 and 2011 editions of the festival in their native country, and as FasterLouder reports, coincidentally the band have an announcement to make on the same day as the Vans Warped Tour announcement.

As for who else to expect on next week’s Warped Tour lineup announcement, Maddah has promised that “Warped will have lots of locals,” in contrast to Soundwave – which has previously drawn criticism for its international focus. The serial tweeting promoter has also remarked on the distinctions between the two events before; “Warped is about mayhem & DIY punk rock spirit. [Soundwave] is about delivering a slick & orchestrated day of performances.”

Whatever the final bill, Maddah has confirmed that the Vans Warped Tour will be the only chance to catch them as there won’t be any sideshows for the festival.

The lineup for South America’s Vans Warped Festival for 2013 could give fans a hint of who to expect at December’s shows. With names like The Used, Memphis May Fire, Reel Big Fish, and Black Veil Brides gracing the South American earth in July/August this year, there is possibility that we could be enjoying these acts in our very own backyard come December.

An Australian leg for the Vans Warped Tour marks its first appearance Down Under in more than a decade. After first launching in 1995, Warped eventually made its way to Australia in January 1998 with a lineup that featured Pennywise, Frenzal Rhomb, Blink 182, The Living End, Bodyjar and more, but the punk festival has been absent from Australian shores since its last visit in 2002.
