The popularity of Melbourne singer-songwriter Vance Joy cannot be underestimated and to make it official Liberation Music have announced that ‘Riptide’, Vance Joy’s breakout single that helped him sign an unprecedented five-album deal with America’s Atlantic records, and has now been certified Gold Status by ARIA.
‘Riptide’ is taken from Vance Joy’s debut five-track EP, God Loves You When You Are Dancing which has been highly acclaimed, with our Tone Deaf reviewer labelling it “a gorgeous, stripped back collection of organic life experiences.”
A booming success, ‘Riptide’ was originally uploaded by Vance Joy to Soundcloud, within hours the song had hit #1 on Hype Machine’s Most Popular Chart. Triple J quickly got on board, and soon after ‘Riptide’ had worked its way up the iTunes Singles Chart and the ARIA Streaming Chart, where it reached #12.
Now with commercial radio also smitten, ‘Riptide’ has secured its highest position yet on the ARIA Singles Chart at #29. This week, it’s looking set to go even higher. And with the chart success comes the sales, now amounting in excess of 35,000 leading to it’s Gold status!
The story of his live show follows a similar story, with his April tour completely selling out and the remainder of his 2013 schedule seeing him criss-cross the globe for extensive touring before the artist commences work on his debut album. Throughout July and August, he has the honour of supporting Bernard Fanning on his sold-out Departures Tour. He will also perform at this year’s Splendour In The Grass.
Before that however, he’s heading out on the ‘Riptide’ Tour, playing shows this August around the country, which is already selling fast. A third Corner Hotel show in Melbourne is now on-sale and a second Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney. There are limited tickets for shows in Adelaide, Brisbane and Fremantle remaining.
