Hard working part-UK, part-Perth, now Sydney-based band The Spitfires have been hard at work on the road this year, with not one, but two tours in support of their debut full-length record Songs From The Debt Generation, now they’re set to grease the wheels on the tour bus for another trek to support new single ‘Skeletons’.

Lifted from the Songs For The Debt Generation, the band’s album arrived with quite a bang – both figuratively and literally – with the group’s house exploding after a gas leak, on the same day before they were due to relocate from Perth to Sydney after successfully launching their album.

Injured but still intact, the band’s founding members Sean Regan and Paul Bovenkerk found themselves more determined than ever to make their interstate move worthwhile.

Having toured the eastern seaboard almost constantly since relocating, The Spitfires have most certainly been making good use of their time, and in the process have taken their live performance to the next level, with a host of new fans coming along for the ride. With airplay on SYN, 4ZZZ, FBi and RRR, the album’s first few singles helped cement the band on the east coast.

Formed in 2009 by singer/guitarist Sean Regan and bassist Paul Bovenkerk (who would be joined by a Spinal Tap-esque rotation of drummers), The Spitfires were in the game right from the beginning; releasing two EPs and touring the UK and Japan all within their first couple of years of existence. Between their unpredictable live show and Regan’s flair for publicity stunts (the latter of which resulted in threats of legal action from a certain commercial radio network) The Spitfires rose to prominence quickly and convincingly.

Helped in no small part by the smart punk attitude and entertaining songwriting of Songs From The Debt Generation, of which our Tone Deaf reviewer called an “excellent listen” in his 7.5/10 review. “There is a brash and in your face style to what The Spitfires do that has been somewhat lacking in local music for a while… One looks forward to what is to come from this highly talented duo.”

Once again heading back out on the road, The Spitfires will be taking Songs From The Debt Generation to Australia to launch their new single ‘Skeletons’, Hear
