Bloc Party may be potentially calling it quits after the release of their brand new EP, but Australian fans will be getting a taste from frontman Kele Okereke in solo mode as he returns to the country to headline a brand new Aussie music festival promising “Big air and big beats.”
Hitting the slopes of Thredbo ski resort in NSW’s Snowy Mountain area this September comes the launch of Efterski Festival, a five-day music festival with an impressive inaugural line-up headlined by Kele, as well as AMP-winning funk-hop locals, Sydney duo Hertmitude.
They are joined on the bill by live electro masters RÜFÜS, Melbourne dance provocateurs World’s End Press, Brisbane punks Bleeding Knees Club, a DJ set from fellow garage duo DZ Deathrays, one-man music maverick Pluto Jonze, super-producer/DJ Alison Wonderland, a set from Canyons (in their Pink Gin guise) and plenty more.
Given it’s unique location up a snowy mountain, the Rekordelig-sponsored festival also features a number of extra-curricular sporting events to enjoy. The Toyota One Hit Wonder Big Air will allow festival-goers to witness some of the best freeskiers leaping from one of the biggest jumps in the world, while the Rhythm Skim Showdown, a fancy dress ‘pond skim’ with prizes up for grabs for the zaniest costumes and the biggest wipe-outs on the cold lakes, free to enter.
There’s also the screenings of the Contour Rookie Films finalists in a competition searching for the best winter sports action short film. Punters can also indulge in apres (efter ski) at the Alpine Hotel Swedish Hot Pools when the dancing and rocking gets to be too much.
Running from Tuesday 10th to Saturday 14th September, there are also three-night accommodation packages available that run the breadth of the festival, prices start at $165 for a variety of options that include lift passes and entry.
