The devastating news of Newcastle’s iconic Morrow Park Bowling Club burning to the ground in May of this year rattled the local music community considerably. And not just the Newcastle locals – all troubadours who had passed through its doors, crashed on its floors, made a racket in its infinitely accessible rehearsal, performance and recording spaces, or simply just imbibed and roamed freely, felt the sting of its passing.

The Morrow’s recording studio The Institute was the place that birthed the debut recordings from the likes of Mojo Juju & The Snake Oil Merchants, Kira Puru & The Bruise, The Seabellies, The Book Of Ships, Boatfriends, Ergo B Bag, and many, many others. The space has also featured on Triple J’s Hack and ABC TV’s Not Quite Art series.

As a live music venue it hosted many bands over the years, including Fugazi, Pungent Stench, David Bridie, Pete Murray, Architecture In Helsinki, Decoder Ring, The Red Paintings and more.

Now a selection of bands are gathering together to perform for one night only at Melbourne’s iconic Corner Hotel to smash out some music and absurdity, all in the name of gathering funds to help rebuild the Morrow, brining back an important part of Newcastle’s music scene back like a phoenix from the ashes after the May Fire.

“Bloodcore bluesmen” Brothers Grim & The Blue Murders top a night that features fellow ratbags Mesa Cosa, Made For Chickens By Robots, the Book Of Ships, Boatfriends, Mangelwurzel, iOnic (for a once off formation) and DJ Joan Kirner, aka feisty scribe Marieke Hardy.

Taking place on Sunday 4th August, Mozfest – Blaze of Glory II will be a true act of heroism and a night of great tunes.
