Mixing footy and music to great success, the inaugural Presentation Night saw iconic Aussie singer-songwriter Paul Kelly and Western Bulldogs star Bob Murphy chewing the fat at The Corner Hotel, as two greats in their respective fields kicked goals alongside host Francis Leach.
The first-ever Presentation Night kicked major goals, and now following its sell-out debut earlier this month, the horn blows on Round 2, once again taking place at The Corner on Thursday 15th August for another involved conversation a footballer who loves music, and a musician who loves football.
Joining music and sports obsessive Francis Leach (ABC Grandstand Breakfast) for Presentation Night’s second entry is legendary Tiger, much loved commentator and music lover Matthew Richardson and You Am I frontman, formidable Australian songwriter, TV show host, film star, and “life long Shinboner”, Tim Rogers.
Together the trio will tackle the big issues: the similarities between professional musicians and professional footballers, the friendship-forming bond of AFL and rock, and a look inside Tim Rogers and Matthew Richardson’s kitbags to discuss favourite albums, players, and what scares them about hitting the spotlights under stage and field.
As our Tone Deaf reviewer on ground at the first Presentation Night with Paul Kelly and Bob Murphy described, the match highlights were many.
“A real four quarter effort, full of great stories: Kelly getting a pitch report from Bob Dylan, Murphy recording a cover of a Paul Kelly song for his wife’s birthday and becoming ever more loveable, Renee Geyer’s distaste for chicken dinners, images of Danny Southern in Motörhead and some classic Community Cup anecdotes,” she writes, but “the biggest treat came after the final siren with Kelly performing a song he’d finished only that day, inspired by Charlie Perkins’ book Bastard Like Me.”.
