By the end of every week there are a bunch of music-related stories, cool links, videos, and other internet ditties that we haven’t managed to get to throughout the week.

As a remedy to this, we’re happy to introduce our new column Trash Can– our avenue for sharing cool music tidbits we’ve come across for you to nibble on before the glory of the weekend. Dig in!

Wavves Have A Comic Book  And It Looks Just Like You Think

Because the days of sticking to just making music are long gone (thanks Wayne Coyne)  Nathan Williams of Wavves has made a comic. According to Pitchfork, it tells the tale of “the fantastic and disturbing journey of two young mutant boys, Daniel and Serjio, uncovering secrets surrounding their family and friends. This journey ultimately will determine the fate of their world and many others. They live in Verlaine City, a city that once was the center of a scientific revolution, but now a disgusting, dying shadow of its former self. When the boys are visited by beings from another realm, its up to them to discover the truth about their father and his incredible past.” Rad.

Ever Wonder How ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Would Sound With Impressions?

Some people have a lot of time on their hands. Sometimes this is a good thing. Take the case of Paul Vlahos, impersonator extraordinare. In the space of the seven and a half minutes that make the classic Queen song, Vlahos sings the lyics as more than 20 characters ranging from almost every character from Family Guy to Christopher Walken to characters from The Simpsons, to President Obama. If you’ve ever wanted to see Stewie Griffin harmonise with the President of the United States, this might just make your day.

Pet Sounds As You’ve Never Ever Seen It Before Feat. Mathematics

Brian Wilson is not unlike a dog or a robot; he can hear things most humans can’t, which is why no one, not a single other person can make a harmony sound as good as he can. Like Wilson, Alexander Chen is also a pretty cool guy. He works for Google and makes some really interesting music-related things in his spare time. In his newest piece he uses a mathematical relationship between the circumference of a circular surface and pitch to write code that draws a circle for each note of the song of The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds . Appreciate one man’s art through another’s by watching the video above and try and count the number of notes used in the one song, we dare you. (Via Wired)

Minor Threat Are The Latest Anti-Establishment Punk Band To Sell Out

We thought we’d taken all we could get from bands selling out on us (we’re looking at you Status ‘Down Down Prices Are Down’ Quo), Minor Threat had to go and sign a deal with Urban Outfitters. Don’t worry though guys, frontman Ian Mackaye has a super great excuse  “It’s fucking absurd the amount of bootlegs are out there, my time is better spent doing other things … It’s not a political thing for me. I just don’t give a fuck about T-shirts.” The deisgn depicts a black sheep getting evicted from a herd, so now you, and millions of other douchebags can feel like you’re not alone.  More at Consequence Of Sound

Bro Plays Guitar, Sings, And Surfs All At Once

Chris Hau really liked surfing and music so logically, he’s combined the two. He’s decided to  perform a cover of Otis Redding’s ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’  mid-surf. This might seem a little gimmicky, but credit where it’s due, He gives pretty good voice considering he’s both playing guitar and SURFING IN THE OCEAN. Don’t worry though, he’s not stopping at this. He’ll also be singing and parasailing, and surfing and rapping in some soon to be released clips. (Via Alan Cross)
