The Bernard Fanning Australian Tour 2013 continues to roll around the country, including a sell out performance at Melbourne’s Palace Theatre tomorrow night, but some unfortunate circumstances mean that Tasmanian fans will be missing out on Fannings Derpartures Tour.

A press statement issued today reads:

It is with regret that Bernard Fanning’s show in Hobart is cancelled, with several persons from Bernard’s touring party now required in Queensland on Tuesday to attend the funeral of a dear friend and colleague. The show, scheduled for the same Tuesday, August 13 at Wrest Point, will no longer go ahead and will not be rescheduled.”

Ticketholders are advised to contact Wrest Point Service Centre on 03 6221 1700 to obtain a refund. Furthermore, ticketholders will be emailed with details from the venue.

The Departures Tour marks the singer-songwriter’s return to the stage since fronting Powderfinger for their 2010 Farewell Tour, with a huge run of dates that sold in excess of 300,000 tickets to send-off one of Australia’s most beloved rock acts – while Bernard Fanning’s own headline solo tour has been a hit with Australian audiences with a series of sold out shows.

Fans have been treated to an equal split of tunes from both Tea & Sympathy and Departures, with Fanning telling Tone Deaf in a recent interview that the songs “all gel together and it’s the same with Powderfinger as well… In the end, it’s still my voice that’s kind of sitting on top of it all and I think that’s what happens with most bands,” he admits. “It doesn’t really matter the kind of style or genre. There’s a certain familiarity with the voice that tends to get it to hang together.”

Joining Fanning on the Departures Tour are Melbourne indie twosome Big Scary and emerging singer-songwriter Vance Joy, both handpicked by the former Powderfinger vocalist himself.

“It’s a privilege to be taking Big Scary and Vance Joy with us as these are both acts that will be rocking houses and warming hearts for years to come,” says Fanning.
