Something For Kate’s Paul Dempsey is headed out on another solo trek, with the just announced Shotgun Karaoke Australian Tour 2013, to commemorate both Dempsey’s new forthcoming Shotgun Karaoke EP and a string of solo shows following on from a touring practice the Something For Kate frontman started on the road.
During Something For Kate’s recent nation-spanning Star Crossed Cities tour throughout May and June, the frontman for the Melbourne three-piece cultivated his love for a great tribute by filming a different cover song backstage each night at every venue, posting the results on up on the band’s social media post-show.
Highlights included David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ performed on the stairs backstage at The Metro in Sydney; You Am I’s ‘Berlin Chair‘ at The Gov, Adelaide. Queen’s ‘I Want to Break Free‘ in the stairwell at the HiFi ,Brisbane; R.E.M.’s ‘Losing My Religion’ in the bowels of The Forum Theatre… the list went on. The response from fans was immediate, people begin requesting songs and hanging out for the next release.
Following on from this turn of events, Dempsey spent time in the recording studio committing a number of his popular renditions to tape for the release of a one-off Shotgun Karaoke EP on 4th October. To commemorate the release is the accompanying solo tour of the same name, with Dempsey kicking off a run of solo shows from Saturday 5th October, where the SFK frontman will deliver a characteristically rousing set of cover before moving on to his enviable songbook of solo and Something For Kate material.
Joining Paul Dempsey for all shows will be one of Melbourne’s most exciting emerging talents, Olympia. Her recently released self-titled debut EP showcases her incredible voice and compositional skills. Be it voice, guitar(s) or keys, Olivia Bartley, the song writer and creative force behind the project, has a sure knowledge of her armoury.
