Hear The Breaking Bad Theme Played With Meth Lab Equipment

While anticipation is at an all-time high as the final eight episodes in the adventures of TV’s most infamous high school teacher turned meth dealer go to air, a makeshift musician has put together a curious tribute. Using only equipment that you’d find in a typical meth lab (except a guitar, but you never know) YouTube user Andrew Huang hits propane cylinders, coffee filters, frying pans, and other household items for drug-making to record a unique version of the Breaking Bad theme. No nods to Jesse Pinkman’s fictional band, TwaüghtHammër, but then you can’t have it all.

Meet The Orchestra That Plays Instruments Recycled From Landfill

The scenes of the slums of Cateura in Paraguay that opens this heartwarming mini-doco are pretty depressing, as children traipse across garbage that’s lumped in mountain-sized mounds. But there’s a positive side to this ecological waste. Enter the Recycled Orchestra, a collection of aspiring young musicians who perform with instruments that have been grafted from the trash and garbage that’s an everyday part of Latin America’s downtrodden economic situation; such as 19-year-old ‘Bebi’ Chavez’s cello constructed from an oil can, discarded wood, and an old beef tenderiser. If you can watch the three minutes of Landfill Harmonic without feeling even a few tingling bursts of hope, then congratulations, you’re a robot. (via KickStarter)

Alex Turner’s All-Night Bender For New Arctic Monkeys Video

The Arctic Monkeys have a new music video for the second single lifted from their forthcoming album AM, which lands this September, following on from the sexed-up ‘Do I Wanna Know’. Starring bequiffed frontman Alex Turner, the new clip teaches fans a few things, like the band enjoy hanging out in divey pubs that play their music, that Turner might struggle to hold his liquor – becoming ever more paranoid and horny – or simply that dating a rock star might not be all its cracked up to be.

The Ocean Party Announce New Single, Album, Tour & Record Deal

Is there a band that better fits the title of ‘quiet achievers’ than Melboure-via-Wagga Wagga outfit The Ocean Party? Probably not. This September sees the release of Split, the band’s third album in as many years, with the lead single and title track promising yet another slice of charmingly relaxed guitar pop in the vein of last year’s winning Social Clubs. The five-piece have signed to Spunk Records for their new album and have released the title track and lead single as a taster before the band embark on two national tours, one for the single and one for the album. Confused? Then take a dip in the chilled Dick Diver-esque shapes of ‘Split’ below, then head here to see where you can catch them live.

New Janelle Monáe Album To Feature Prince, Erykah Baduh & More

The details of the sophomore album from neo-soulstress Janelle Monáe reveal that her anticipated follow-up to 2010’s The ArchAndroid continues not only that concept album’s sci-fi story into its next chapters, but that the stylish RnB lady has dug deep into her little black book of contacts. Due for release this September, The Electric Lady is actually a double album, with plenty of high-profile names spread across its two discs and 19 tracks. Top of the guest list is the Purple One himself, Prince, along with spots from scissor-kicking singer Miguel, Beyonce’s hip lil’ sister Solange, and Grammy-winning jazz artist Esperanza Spalding. Check out Monáe and Erykah Badu waxing witchy in the previously released single ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’ below for a taste of the collab-rich goodness due next month. (via Pretty Much Amazing)

Online Doco Digs Through Influential Hip Hop Producer’s Vinyl Collection

Even if you don’t know who J Dilla is, chances are you’ve heard something in the world of rap and hip hop that he was directly responsible for. One of the most prolific and important producers of modern times, he worked with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Slum Village, Common and many more before he passed away from a rare blood disease in 2006. He left behind not only a rich musical legacy and a longing in those he inspired, but also a mightily impressive vinyl collection. As part of their Crate Diggers series, Fuse took an intimate look at the producer’s eclectic and far-reaching collection of records and LPs through the eyes and opinions of the hip hop icon’s own family members and rappers Talib Kweli and J. Rocc. The results are much like J Dilla’s music: fascinating, evocative, and comprehensive. (via SPIN)
