A Prince Rama Australian Tour 2013 has been announced and following on from the Brooklyn psych-two-piece being announced as part of the Melbourne Festival 2013 contemporary music program, the duo are bringing their swirling synths, pulsing guitars, and fluttery vocals to national stages this October.
“What the hell is that” is a question, not uncommon to sisters, Taraka and Nimai Larson, whom make up Prince Rama. The answer isn’t simple either. They have lived in ashrams, worked for utopian architects, written manifestos, delivered lectures from pools of fake blood and conducted group exorcisms disguised as VHS workouts.
Discovered by Animal Collective’s Avey Tare, back in 2010 at a Texan Dive bar, the sisters were then equipping their audience with handmade shoes clad with broken chimes.
Prince Rama are constantly breaking the mould of what is acceptable, to forge a dizzying universe that is wholly their own. Their impulsive live shows, incorporating elements of mystical sonic ceremony, performance art and dance floor initiation rites make up the indefinable, hypnotic sister duo.
Prince Rama will exhibit a special screening of short film, Never Forever, directed by Lily X (Astral Projects) and starring Prince Rama at most of their Australian shows. Never Forever, a ‘Now Age psych opera’ is a free form journey through dimensions both surreal and virtual – from the glamorous, twisted world of a post-apocalyptic gym queen to the nightmarish breakdown of a robot turned pop star. Bedazzled camp meets interdimensional Bollywood in this tribute to the macabre demands of pop stardom.
Prince Rama last left Australian audiences both, surprised and fascinated with their mystical live shows, and will give their down under duties this October for another round of spellbinding, story-generating live shows.
