The Darebin Music Feast 2013 program has been announced and once again the annual program has pulled together a fine selection of explosive and imaginative aural pleasures to offer for this year’s edition.

Running from Wednesday 18th to Sunday 29th September, there’s over 150 events across 25 venues throughout the Melbourne suburbs of Northcote, Westgarth, Preston, Thornbury, Reservoir, Bundoora and Fairfield, which brings together Melbourne’s thriving music community to celebrate songwriting and music in all its forms.

The City of Darebin is proud to have committed new funds to the annual Darebin Music Feast in order to deliver an exciting new curated program and to grow the diversity of music projects with the festival. Some exciting new initiatives for 2013 include the creation of a sizzling festival hub bar.

Named ‘The Bain Marie’, the 200 capacity, free entry bar will be housed in the Northcote Town Hall Civic Square, and will present a broad selection of music, kid friendly lunchtime gigs, open decks vinyl sessions, community participation events, guest speakers and music comedy all with a fully stocked bar of craft brewers, spirit, and wine makers.

Artists performing at The Bain Marie will include Howlin’ Steam Train, Quarry Mountain Dead Rats, Royal Jelly Dixieland Band, Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, Chook Race, The Tiger & Me plus soul, garage, gypsy and folk acts, as well as the Electric Guitar Circle with Kim Salmon, a unique tutorial session come performance with the Australian music scene guru.

A curated program will also be presented in the majestic Main Hall of the Northcote Town Hall, with a selection of free and tickets events. Special events include the Melbourne premier of Hail to the King, an all-female fronted Elvis tribute with Kira Puru, Stella Angelico, and Mojo Ju Ju taking place on 18th & 19th September.

Other highlights at the Northcote Town Hall include the FReezA presented all ages show featuring Animaux, the Rims, and The Black Harrys on Sunday 22nd September in Studio 1 & 2, while three of Australia’s best young a capella girl groups come together for Songstress, a special night of vocal music featuring Aluka, The Nymphs, and Ginger and Tonic on Tuesday 24th September in the Northcote Town Hall’s Main Hall.

There’s also the new Street Feast program strand will utilise less traditional spaces from Westgarth to Preston, for performances, pop-up interactions and roaming entertainment throughout the festival.

The wonderfully eclectic local venue program features many great new and established Melbourne artists, with a diverse program that features the likes of The Basics, Spencer P Jones, The Darjeelings, Alanna and Alicia, Canary, Les Thomas, Matt Glass, Melody Moon, Strumpet, The Imprints, and many, many more.
