The Melvins and Helmet Australian Tour 2013 has been announced and lovers of hard rock and sludge metal can rejoice at the news that two of Amercia’s finest are joining forces for a co-headline tour this December.
Both bands are already heading to Australia for for the Meredith Music Festival this December but have now announced a series of sideshows where the experimental sludge godfathers Melvins, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary, will be joined by alt metal virtuosi Helmet, in a run of show s around the country.
Melvins have released a veritable ‘shitload’ (their words) of albums over the past 30 years, the most recent being a covers collection called Everybody Loves Sausages.
“Has it really only been 30 years?” asked singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne. “Dang! Thanks to everyone who’s been there for us! It’s been an exciting trip and I probably should have listened and learned more. I apologize for anything I’ve ever done wrong and for anything I’m going to do wrong… Ha!”
Meanwhile, Helmet, fronted by Page Hamilton, have been playing their own brand of heavy music around since 1989, putting their offbeat time signatures and dense chords to tape and releasing 7 studio albums and touring the world constantly. It’s this intelligent musicality that also led Page to work on scores for numerous Hollywood films (including S.W.A.T, Titus, and Saw) as well as providing guest guitar for artists such as David Bowie, Joe Henry, and Therapy?.
“The first Melvins/Helmet tour was in 1991 or ’92; the four Helmet guys and three Melvins guys piled in one van with two bands worth of gear and braved massive snowstorms and overnight drives,” recalls Page Hamilton. “Needless to say we are looking forward to our Australian tour with our long-time friends minus the overnight drives, blizzards and floor surfing.”
This December, prepare to have your ear-holes pummeled as two legendary bands land at a venue near you.
