Howdy, Im Leon Harrison and I sing for The Lazys. The Lazys if you are not aware are a non for profit no bullshit rock n roll band based on the central coast NSW. We have been together now for over seven years. We don’t care for whats cool or ‘in’, we play music and deliver a show that sets us apart from the rest and most importantly gives the audience what they payed for, a F**kin good night. Good times are on the horizon because we have just returned from recording in NYC and showcased our new record at Bigsound!

Take us back the beginning of the The Lazys, how did the band form and with all original members etc?

Matty (Lead Guitar), Willy (Bass) and Myself (Singer) formed the band the way any band should, hanging out as mates passionate to play rock music. We then met Jay our drummer in Tasmania whilst on the road. He soon joined the band after the sudden departure of our previous drummer due to personal reasons. We then had a few rhythm guitarists along the way who were again great mates passionate to rock out however as life progressed, they went in their own different directions. As a result we welcomed Liam to the band to take on the role of Rhythm guitarist who has taken to the title like the queen to old-fashioned bloomers.

Nice set at the Oztix party at Bigsound, you guys rocked the house! How did your other showcase show at Alhambra go?

Thanks, we had a blast at the Oztix party! Alhambra went really well. We had a bunch of people attend, some new faces and some old so overall the show was very successful.

The Lazy’s recently spent some time in NYC recording an album, who produced it with and what was your studio highlight?

We worked with producers Gus Vango and Werner F who have worked on some really cool records including The Stills, Monster Truck, Priestess, The Trews and Aussies, The Grates. I really cant pin point one moment, I think the whole vibe and feeling of being in NYC just made the experience one that will be impossible to beat.

The Lazys are pretty damn rock ‘n’ roll onstage, who least rock n roll off stage and why?

Our drummer Jay is a hairdresser so I’m guna have to say the most un rock n roll thing I do off stage is have him cut my hair. Im working on him shampooing it but he refuses.

What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection that may have influenced your current sound?

My old man was a music teacher, so I don’t reckon it was his music collection more his passion for music and his desire to always help me learn more about its beauty.

You are playing amongst some pretty awesome bands this weekend at the very first Sounds Like Suburbs, which bands are you really looking forward to seeing?

I cant wait to see Your Favourite Enemies from Canada as I didn’t get a chance at Bigsound. I also like the Goons Of Doom, we have played with those guys a fair few times and they always turn it on!

Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage?

Be myself, without me I wont be onstage.

If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?

Well, it just so happens I do have my own festival called The Reunion. In its 2nd year its all going down at The Entrance Leagues Club on the Central Coast on Saturday December 21st. This years line up includes Something With Numbers, The Snowdroppers, King Parrot, Gay Paris, The Lazys, Tropical Zombie and many many more over 3 stages! www.facebook.com/thereunionfestival

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living female Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with?

I reckon it would be Sarah Mcleod because she’s a true blue performer and one who from a rock fans perspective always stayed true, performed with conviction and never cowered to trends and all the bullshit they want you to play. Fair enough?

What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?

A good night on the piss!!

Why should we not miss your perform at Sounds of The Suburbs this Sunday the 22nd September in Cronulla?

Because if you miss it you will then see all the reviews and think F&*K I should of probably gone and seen that. Oh and you should just head out to SOTS regardless cause it’s guna be a great day of emerging talent and for me that’s a pisser day out!! Thanks for your support its really appreciated… Leon
