Funk-punk-pop funsters Regurgitator kickstart an extensive Australasian tour for their latest album tonight, beginning across the pond in New Zealand before the band wind their way around Australia through September and October.

If you still hadn’t finalised plans on catching the ‘Gurg in the live setting over the next or month two, the long-running Aussie group have just given a mighty good reason to do so.

A statement from the band today announced that Regurgitator will be entering into “extended hiatus” following their current tour in support of their seventh studio album, Dirty Pop Fantasy

“Due to a wonderfully surprising upcoming addition to Quan [Yeoman]’s family, Regurgitator will be taking an extended hiatus following the DPF tour. We have decided that this will be the last national tour that the band will do for the foreseeable future(?)” reads the (quizzical) statement from the band.

Capping the news that the band will be taking a break as Yeomans embraces fatherhood, the band write: “We thank everyone for all their ongoing support and smiles at all the shows and hope to see you out there in October!”

The news arrives following what’s been a whirlwind year of attention for the Brisbane band, consisting of Yeomans, bassist/vocalist Ben Ely and regular drummer Peter Kostic.

This time last year, the band were gearing up for their Retrotech Tour, playing their first two iconic album releases – Tu-Plang and Unit – live, back-to-back for audiences across the country. The Regurgitator live show then rolled through a number of high profile festival appearances, including Meredith 2012, proving they’d “quickly regained the mantle as one of Australia’s most reliable festival acts,” as our Tone Deaf reviewer put it.

While the band were also a hit at Groovin The Moo, with not only “those who first discovered them through Triple J Hottest 100 compilations, but the current generation of Spotify users as well.”

More recently, the band also turned in some well-received shows at the BIGSOUND industry conference in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley last month.

Last month saw the release of the band’s Dirty Pop Fantasy, a 19-track collection that “proves brilliance never expires,” according to our Tone Deaf album review. It’s also the catalyst for the band’s final headline tour “for the forseeable future.”

The Dirty Pop Tour is also adding a number of tour mates to the bill for select dates, including Portland, Oregon’s garage rock iconoclasts Wampire and cover artist Johnny Russell’s Mystery School in addition to a whole host of local bands across the two month trek.

Regurgitator are also one of a number of all-star Aussie artists – including You Am I, Paul Dempsey, Adalita, and more – raising money in the benefit concert for Casey Tutungi co-ordinated by Falls Festival promoter Simon Daly.

Any lingering hopes for a future Regurgitator tour could be pinned on Quan Yeomans needing to entertain Yeomans Jnr with a kid-friendly set from the band. Just as they did for their first ever ‘G-Rated set’ as Dress Up! Attack – a music festival designed specifically for children.

So how did the trio adapt their cuss-happy catalogue for kids? Including such hits as Unit‘s ‘I Will Lick Your Asshole’ or fan favourite ‘I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am’?

The cheeky Quan Yeomans warned parents that the trio would “not be bowing to any lame censorship restrictions for the sake of ‘protecting’ the unsullied innocents,” telling parents to expect “unadulterated hits” such as ‘I Sucked A Lollipop To Get Where I Am.’

With the exact same kind of humorous attitude and vigorous live show they’ve been delivering for 20 years, fans can only hope the “extended hiatus” is just that, and not the typical euphemism for ‘break-up’.
