Australian rock treasures You Am I have announced the return of their traditional Melbourne Cup Eve shows after a five year hiatus.

Fresh from completing their 22-date Hi Fi Daily Double National Tour, You Am I will hit the Prince Of Wales, performing two special Melbourne Cup Eve shows, back to back, on Sunday 3rd November.

The band’s recent Hi Fi Daily Double Tour saw the band – frontman Tim Rogers, Andy Kent, Russell Hopkins and 15-year-veteran “new guy” Davey Lane – celebrating their recorded legacy live, playing 1995’s Hi-Fi Way and 1996’s Hourly, Daily live and in full; receiving rave reviews across the country, including Tone Deaf’s own reviewers at the Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre and The Forum in Melbourne.

Those two early album classics, along with 1993 debut Sound As Ever, were also given the full reissue treatment this year, in remastered digital, CD, and 180g vinyl reissues, along with a ton of extras including B sides, never-before-released live performances, studio tracks, demos and expanded liner notes and unseen photos.

“It was nice to go through that stuff and have a little glimpse of what went into making those records,” guitarist Davey Lane told Tone Deaf in a recent interview. “We’ve uncovered some really interesting stuff. There’s a song that You Am I recorded for Hourly Daily that I didn’t know existed. It certainly wasn’t released anywhere and Tim doesn’t remember recording it.”

The Melbourne Cup Eve Shows will put another winning touch to the band’s 2013 CV, with support at both shows from Bittersweet Kicks and Drunk Mums.
