Good things really do come to those who wait…

Another of the Harvest 2013 replacement tours has been announced and its perhaps the biggest and the best yet, following a series of ongoing negotiations following the official cancellation of Harvest 2013, with promoter AJ Maddah putting together plans for the scrapped festival lineup to hit Australia, today a triple headline tour has been announced for this November.

Following on from the announcement of headline tours from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and then Franz Ferdinand, the reunited lo-fi alt-folk legends Neutral Milk Hotel, celebrated troubadour M Ward, and indie rock stalwarts Superchunk will be touring together under the Harvest Presents banners for shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne next month.

While Maddah was unable to secure Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, and Wallflowers for tours, while tours from Harvest acts Eels and Volcano Choir are delayed until 2014, the Soundwave/Warped/Big Day Out promoter has fulfilled his promise of getting Neutral Milk Hotel, M Ward, and Superchunk to Australia before the end of the year, and in one fell swoop.

Update 11/10/2013: The first Melbourne show at The Forum on Friday 15th November has sold out in just one hour, but long suffering fans need not fret as Neutral Milk Hotel, M Ward, and Superchunk have agreed to perform a second and final show in Melbourne on Saturday 16th November. This is the second and definitely final show and tickets are on sale now through www.ticketmaster.com.au!

Following the release of 1998’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and subsequent support tour, legendary US indie cult band Neutral Milk Hotel went on hiatus. Aside from a 2001 live album, a 2002 album of Bulgarian music and a handful of live appearances, ringleader Jeff Mangum became indie rock’s resident recluse for over a decade. The band is noted for its experimental sound, obscure lyrics and eclectic instrumentation. For the first time ever, Neutral Milk Hotel will be performing shows in Australia.

In April this year, Portland, Oregon troubadour M. Ward released his highly anticipated sixth studio solo album A Wasteland Companion to critical acclaim, following three years after his equally lauded Hold Time. In that time he’s toured the globe, released two albums as one half of Grammy-nominated duo She & Him, as well as an album with the talented group of friends collectively known as Monsters Of Folk. M. Ward will bring his honey-soaked vocals, deft finger-picking, innate sense of melody and beguiling lyrics to Australian audiences.

Last but not least is Superchunk, who have been offering up their unique brand of alternative rock for two decades through a prolific volume of work. Like most great bands that started loud, they also explored the quiet with releases including a self-titled debut (which housed “Slack Motherfucker”), Come Pick Me Up, Here’s to Shutting Up and the band’s most recent offering, I Hate Music. The record with the tongue-in-cheek title now sees the band hitting Australian shores for a long overdue tour.
