The Leonard Cohen Australian Tour 2013 adds extra dates and following the announcement that the legendary singer-songwriter is returning to Australia, demand for tickets has expanded the original itinerary.

Returning for his third concert tour in five years, the Frontier Touring Company has now confirmed that Leonard Cohen will add second performances in Sydney and Melbourne.

After his first Sydney performance the day before, Leonard Cohen will take the stage at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Sunday 17th November. Melbourne audiences will also be treated to a second opportunity to see the music icon at Rod Laver Arena on Monday 9th December.

These performances join Cohen’s most extensive tour of Australia to date, travelling throughout major cities as well as performances in regional towns Cairns, Townsville and Wollongong, as well as two very special A Day On The Green performances at Hunter Valley’s Bimbadgen Winery (NSW) and Geelong’s The Hill Winery (VIC).

Joinin Cohen will be his incredible nine piece band featuring the likes of Sharon Robinson, the infamous Webb Sisters and musical director Roscoe Beck. These are Cohen’s first performances in Australia since his critically acclaimed 14-date tour in 2009, which included Frontier Touring’s very first performance at the iconic and beautiful Hanging Rock, which were critically acclaimed as the iconic landscape framed Cohen’s emotive croon, as well as earning the Helpmann Award for Best International Contemporary Concert.

An artist who requires no introduction, the legendary poet turned songwriter possesses one of the most enviable songbooks in modern music. He’s been inducted into the American Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame where Lou Reed said he was “without question one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time, a figure whose body of work achieves greater mystery and depth as time goes on.”

Casting an eye across Cohen’s musical offerings across his decades as a performer, there is no doubt of Reed’s claim. Albums like Songs Of Leonard Cohen (1967), Songs Of Love And Hate(1970) and I’m Your Man (1990), right up to 1992’s The Future, 2001’s Ten New Songs, 2004’sDear Heather and last year’s Old Ideas are rightly considered classics.

Revered not only by critics and audiences but also by fellow musicians, Cohen’s songs have been famously covered by a variety of artists, each version a fascinating insight on Cohen’s impact and lasting influence on the music industry.

From Judy Collins’ ‘Suzanne’ to Jeff Buckley’s seminal rendition of ‘Hallelujah’, Cohen’s songs have travelled as far and wide as their author. U2, REM, Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and the late Johnny Cash are among the other famous devotees. It is estimated that his songbook has been covered over 1,330 times by other recording artists.

Since returning to the stage in 2008 after a 15-year hiatus, Cohen has lost nothing in his years off the road and his shows have quickly been recognised as musical history. Recent performances across the United Kingdom confirm that some things get better with age, like fine wine, cheese and Leonard Cohen:
