By the end of every week there are a bunch of music-related stories, cool links, videos, and other internet ditties that we haven’t managed to get to throughout the week.

As a remedy to this, we’re happy to introduce our new column  Trash Can– our avenue for sharing cool music tidbits we’ve come across for you to nibble on before the glory of the weekend. Dig in!

Beyonce And Jay Z? More Like Beygan And Hov-nivore.

No fair, the Carter family are becoming better people than they already were (a feat thought impossible by many) by becoming vegan for the next 22 days. The challenge is mostly Jay-Z’s doing, partially spurred on by his impending 44th birthday. The reasoning for the obscure time period is based on the idea of it taking 21 days to make or break a habit”, saying that upon reaching Day 22, “you’ve found the way.” Why is this news? Why do we care? Could this mark the beginning of the couple’s own Rishikesh period? Will Beyonce’s next album be dedicated to the benefits of Kale? Will the couple release a series of vegan cookbooks a la Gwyneth Paltrow. Actually, we would buy that. Can that please happen?

Video Evidence That Rebecca Black Hates ‘Friday’ As Much As You Do

For those of us that thought 2011’s viral meltdown “Friday” was just going to fade into the ether, it seems we were sadly mistaken. As a part of Thanksgiving, there’s this thing that happens at midnight (Friday) where every shop suddenly has crazy discounts and people literally go nuts over it. This event is called “Black Friday”. Now, in a move that is really quite “oh-wow-we-can’t-believe-this-didn’t-happen-sooner”, Rebecca Black has um, cleverly, realised that her name and her song match this strange tradition, and thus has released this slightly demonic but also kind of funny reaction video of her sitting through the song that propelled her to a disturbing level of fame as a method of celebrating the holiday. It’s almost comforting to see how embarrassed she is by the whole thing, especially her general “ew” reaction to Patrice Wilson’s rapping. Alas, the whole she mozzle is tinged with a similar feeling of regret to watching the actual “Friday” clip – somebody please, make it stop!

Also here’s a video of Black covering “Wrecking Ball” just in case you wanted to completely ruin your day.

Dr. Karl Has A Christmas Anthem For Us All

It’s only the start of December and Alan Fletcher (aka Dreamy Doctor Karl from Neighbours) has already given the best gift of all in the form of this frolicking big band Christmas single. The accompanying clip is a little inexplicable; Fletcher playing a version of himself that is also a little bit of Doctor Karl (a fantastic version of reality) whose nurses (or receptionists?) are all clad head to toe in Tiki get up and demanding jewelry and whatnot. Fletcher also seems to have developed basic telekinesis, moving presents, dangling mistletoe and generally teleporting all over the place. But really, who cares? This is ridiculously cheesy but in that it’s perfectly Christmassy and a fantastic start to the festive season. PS: Stefan Dennis (Neighbours bad boy Paul Robinson) has a ridiculous cameo in which he also seems to have turned into a teleporting wizard. Amazing.

Students Build Robot Replica Of Pop Singer Robyn

Oh my god there is a tiny robotic version of Robyn and it is kicking goals in technology and cuteness. In what might be the best thing that ever happened to Swedish dance music, students at KTH University have taken it upon themselves to build their very own Fembot! Currently it looks like the little thing can only dance (aw!) but eventually the robot should be able to talk and sing too. According to KTH, “The main goal for this project is for Robyn to embrace and interact with the robot, both physically and digitally. But there is a secondary goal – to honour everyone who [chooses] to go their own way and has a desire to push our development forward. Because without them, we would be stuck in a much less pleasant time.” The robot should be finished around January, and from then on it looks like Robyn will no longer be dancing on her own ;)

Muse Frontman Names Cats Kim And Kanye

In a purrrfect move when it comes to witty pet names, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed this week that he has two cats called Kim and Kanye – despite not ever really listening to Kanye’s tunes. Bellamy told Radio.com  that he liked “some of the sounds” but found the whole thing a bit “in your face”, “very ‘me, me, me”. Ah well, it’s a pretty a-meow-sing pair of names but we hope Kimye are feline good about the whole thing – only time will tail if this will develop into a hissing fit of cat-astrophic proportions.
