Shaun Ryder has reformed Black Grape, his 90s party band that kept up his legendary hedonism after the demise of the Happy Mondays and admittedly put out some pretty good music. Working together again with producer Danny Sabre and rapper Kermit, the band will play their first gig since 1997 at London club The Coronet on April 1st. Ryder said: “It’s great, it’s interesting, it’s part two. I’ve had a break and now I’m back to do it. Danny Saber and I have a great working relationship and the time is right.”

Unsurprisingly the gig coincides with a best of release and is well timed considering the Happy Mondays reunion shows of the last few years have varied in quality, from mildly indifferent to downright car crashes. Shaun’s supposedly kicked his legendary drug habit, but since there’s no money in record releases any more, nothing like a reunion tour to pay off a few debts.
