The Ngaiire Australian Tour 2014 has been announced with the futurel-soul beacon announcing her live dates for summer.
Having just performed in front of an audience of over 100,000 in support of Alicia Keys and John Legend, and following a headline appearance at Tropfest, Ngaiire is capping off a stellar 2013 by announcing a full-scale national tour to spread the word of the larger than life Sydney-via-Papua New Guinea artist, who only released her first record Lamentations not six months ago.
Finishing 2013 in The 2013 Coopers Amp Top 25 ‘Highly Regarded’ List, Lamentations has earned widespread critical acclaim, finishing in many ‘best-of-2013’ lists, while our Tone Deaf reviewer hailed it with an 8/10 score, writing: “With her supremely impressive debut, Ngaiire has exploded out of anonymity and is set to take the Australia, and the world if they’re clever enough, by storm.”
In the first three weeks of release [and in some cases, before] Ngaiire’s Lamentations had been announced as feature album on Sydney’s Eastside Radio and 2SER FM, South Australia’s Radio Adelaide, Melbourne’s 3RRR, PBS and SYN, DIG Australia, 2 BOB Radio and Radio Goolgarri, as well as landing feature album prominence on AIR, and garnering on-air support from Triple J.
After two much-talked-about single tours [for ‘Dirty Hercules’ featuring Hiatus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm, and ‘Around’ respectively] the album tour introduced keen audiences to the wild, and deeply moving, live performance aspect of Ngaiire – culminating in an invitation to showcase at The Australasian World Music Expo in November, and to join John Legend in support of superstar Alicia Keys on two key dates as part of Keys’ Set The World On Fire Tour.
For Keys’ it might be a tour name, for Ngaiire ‘Set The World On Fire’ seems more and more like it might be a prophecy.
