A King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Australian Tour 2014 has been announced, along with details for the band’s newest album – their fourth release in two years.
Having already proven themselves as one of the nation’s hardest working bands, the dynamic seven-piece band surprised fans, industry – everyone – in January when they confirmed the release of Oddments, the fourth King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard Lp in a window of just 18 months.
Along with the artwork, tracklisting, and release details (see below), the release of the album is now accompanied by a massive collection of dates for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Oddments Australian Tour 2014.
The Tour will see the band play an array of different sized venues and festivals across the country (including St Kilda Festival, Golden Plains, & The Gum Ball), along with a killer list of support acts, including Gum (the solo project of Tame Impala/Pond’s Jay Watson), dynamic blues rock duo Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, The Silents, Mt Mountain and more.
The 17 date tour will include an odd collection of shows including a run that is bordering on insane in Melbourne that sees the band play five nights in a row in five of the city’s greatest live music venues: the Old Bar, Tote, Boney, Toff In Town, and Cherry Bar.
These will be the last Australian dates before King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard head off to tour the US until September with dates including the legendary Psychfest in Austin, featuring act like Primal Scream, The Horrors, Black Angels in 2014 (read our Festival Guide here).
An official album release date for Oddments has been set for Friday 7th March via the band’s very own indie label Flightless Records – in patnership with Remote Control Records. A limited edition collectors vinyl release of Oddments will also be due in time for Record Store Day on April 19th 2014.
Following swiftly on from the September 2013 release of the psychedelically tinged but garage-in-spirit Float Along, Fill Your Lungs, (named by Tone Deaf readers as the 6th best Aussie LP of 2013) and nearly exactly one year after the Spaghetti western, spoken-word odyssey Eyes Like The Sky, Oddments promises to display King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s knack for pushing into even further fields of sonic expansion.
New single ‘Vegemite’ is the first taste (pun intended) of the new 12-track set, described by Stu McKenzie as “probably the most literal song I’ve ever written.”
