Gwar Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves have been announced, headlining a bill that features Amon Amarth, Satyricon, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

The four major metal masters will be uniting forces for two special sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney later this month, taking place around the annual Soundwave festival.

Leading the charge are Virginia’s costumed thrash metal heroes, Gwar, arriving in Australia off the back of last year’s Battle Maximus album, widely considered the band’s gnarliest album yet in their ongoing reign of carnage.

“If anyone is gonna destroy the human race, it’s gonna be us”, warns Gwar’s Oderus of the most monstrous chapter in GWAR’s blood-soaked history yet.

Anyone doubting the lunatic brilliance of Gwar’s live show need only take heed of Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah’s comment in programming the group into the Soundwave 2014 set times, “[They] have to be last on. once they have played/spilled shit everywhere the stage might as well be burned down…”

Joining Gwar for these Sidwave shows is Swedish warriors of death metal, Amon Amarth, hitting Australia with their mythically-charged, technically dazzling metal catalogue, including ninth and latest album Deceiver Of The Gods.

Rounding out the lineup is Satyricon, leaders of Norwegian black metal, and Michigan sextet The Black Dahlia Murder, whose melodic deathcore has produced such colourfully titled tracks as ‘Phantom Limb Masturbation’ and ‘Raped In Hatred By Vine of Thorn’.

The Gwar, Amon Amarth, Saytricon, and The Black Dahlia Murder Soundwave 2014 Sidewave shows are the latest in a string of announcements from the festival, including Newsted joining Testament for dates after being booted from dates with Megadeth –  who have now cancelled their Soundwave 2014 appearance – and a bizarre announcement that Pennywise would be joining Less Than Jake’s Sydney Sidewave.

Toady also saw the announcement of a Sidwave triple bill featuring A Day To Remember, The Ghost Inside, and I Killed The Prom Queen.

In festival tradition, there’s also a string of triple-billed Sidewave shows to enjoy, featuring Mastodon, Baroness, and GojiraThe Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, and Dir En Grey, plus Eagles Of Death Metal, Rocket From The Crypt, & MutemathAlice In Chains, Down, and Walking With PapersLess Than Jake, Bowling For Soup, and Zebrahead, as well as Jimmy Eat World, Panic! At The Disco, with Alkaline Trio.

Other sideshows include Soundwave 2014 headliners Avenged SevenfoldAFI with ††† (Crosses)Rob Zombie & Korn, Alter Bridge & Living ColourFinnish rockers HIM,Richie SamboraBlack Veil BridesBiffy ClyroPlacebo, and Clutch.

In related news, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah is putting together the final set times for Soundwave 2014 and has also confirmed a change of venue for the festival’s closing date in Perth, following in the footsteps of Big Day Out and its last-minute venue change following ongoing battles with the anti-festival attitudes of Claremont Council.
