It’s taken over 40 years since they came howling out of Ann Arbor Michigan, but one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands of all time if finally being given some formal recognition by the music biz. Tonight (Monday), The Stooges are being inducted into the rock n’ roll hall of fame. The ceremony, to be held at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, will see the band play two songs from their back catalogue – I Wanna Be Your Dog and Search & Destroy.

The line-up, following the death of founding member Ron Asheton last year, now features James Williamson on guitar. Williamson, who joined the band for 1973’s seminal Raw Power album, has picked up his axe again following a successful career as a businessman with Sony Electronics. The global financial crisis saw him offered a redundancy package and he finally caved in to Iggy’s requests to rejoin the band.
