A DZ Deathrays Australian Tour 2014 has been announced to coincide with the dynamic ARIA-winning garage duo’s new album, Black Rat.
Due for release on 2nd May, Black Rat is the follow-up to debut LP Bloodstreams (ARIA Award for best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album in 2012) and will see the pair of self-described “professional face melters” hitting venues across the country on an extensive trek to showcase their swag of dynamic new material.
DZ Deathrays – guitarist/vocalist Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley – have always had a bullet-proof reputation for delivering explosive lives shows, and with producer Burke Reid (formerly Gerling, credits include The Drones, The Mess Hall, Seekae) at the helm, Black Rat captures the duo’s deathless energy but also extends their sounds, textures, and arrangements.
The first two singles lifted from the new album – the expansive ‘Northern Lights‘ and boisterous ‘Gina Works At Hearts‘ – have already demonstrated how DZ Deathrays have deepened their work in the studio, and as a result the two-piece are adding a third musician to the stage during the upcoming Australian Tour. As the band tease: “Who will that be? You will have to come to the shows to find out, as they will change frequently, but one thing’s for sure, expect some special guests.”
Having toured across the globe constantly for two years following Bloodstreams, playing with acts like Foo Fighters, Crystal Castles, Ratatat, Sleigh Bells and festivals such as Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Laneway Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and Big Day Out, calling DZ Deathrays a well-honed live act is an understatement.
But so that Australian audiences can get the best out of this new live show, DZ Deathrays will be trying it out on some of the harshest critics north of the equator. They’ll be playing SXSW in Austin, Texas and then heading over to the UK to be national tour support for Blood Red Shoes, as well as doing some sideshows with fellow support act Slaves.
Joining DZ Deathrays for their Black Rat album tour this May will be long time friends and surf rock champions in their own right, Palms; and WA garage rockers FOAM. With acts as solid as these three, you can safely say this is one load-bearing lineup.
